Why everyone keeps coming back.

B J's Bayou brings an authentic taste of Cajun and Creole cuisine straight to Roberts, Idaho, serving up a vibrant culinary journey that transports you to the heart of New Orleans without leaving the Northwest. This family-owned Cajun restaurant offers a warm, inviting atmosphere reminiscent of a southern bayou eatery, complete with charming décor and even live alligators for an immersive experience that’s both unique and engaging.

The menu at B J's Bayou is a celebration of bold, flavorful dishes crafted with genuine care and rooted in rich Louisiana tradition. For beef aficionados, the 12 oz. Prime Grade Ribeye Steak is a standout—well-marbled and cooked to perfection, whether grilled or blackened, delivering a juicy, tender bite with every forkful. The 8 oz Filet Mignon is another sublime choice, prized for its buttery tenderness and exquisite texture.

Seafood lovers are treated to true Cajun classics like the Crawfish Étouffée, a luscious blend of tender crawfish tails simmered in a buttery roux enriched with the “Cajun trinity” of celery, bell pepper, and onion, all served over perfectly fluffed white rice. The Shrimp Creole offers plump, succulent shrimp indulged in a savory tomato sauce seasoned with garlic and the signature trinity vegetables—each mouthful bursting with layered spice and exquisitely balanced acidity.

For those seeking a hands-on feast, B J’s Bayou delivers with their generous seafood platters, such as the 3 lb Crawfish boil, paired with classic sides like corn cobletts and red potatoes, finished with buttery bread service and a choice of gumbo or salad. The option to add snow crab or andouille sausage amplifies the celebration of flavors, making it an irresistible choice for a seafood lover’s dream.

The restaurant’s ambiance truly elevates the dining experience. Loyal patrons rave about the laid-back, welcoming vibe and the genuine hospitality extended by the owners, mother and daughter, whose devotion infuses every detail, from the attentive service to the skillful cooking. Guests frequently mention how the space feels like a little New Orleans enclave, complete with lively conversation, authentic décor, and hearty laughter. This sense of place, combined with the unforgettable food, creates a magnetic atmosphere that guests eagerly return to time and again.

Customer reviews sing high praises: “This is a true gem! Food is exceptional, flavorful, served hot... I enjoyed the whole experience!” enthuses Ola Matma, while James Jones fondly recalls it as a spot they've waited 22 years to revisit—now a staple for date nights near Idaho Falls. It was SO amazing! Great food! It had been 22 years since we last ate there, and I know that this is now going to become a regular spot on our date night rotation. Roberts Idaho is not that far from Idaho Falls too.

This place is located in its own place. I love the atmosphere and the live gators! The food is really good and had the feel of being in a whole other place. I loved the laid back feeling and the way the owners took care of us. A little bit of a price, but it was worth the trip. We got invited to watch them feed the little caiman gator.

Went to BJ’s Bayou last night after my wife’s graduation in Rexburg. IT WAS AMAZING. ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLACES I’VE TRIED IN GENERAL! They were super accommodating of our group of about 20! We got to say Hi to Evangeline the Alligator. The atmosphere captures you right when you walk in. They are accommodating, kind, and cares about your time there. This was HANDS DOWN the BEST Cajun food I’ve had! & I’ve spent time all over the south! When they say blackened, they know what it means. BEST BREAD PUDDING I’ve had as well. Get it extra saucy! The Chicken (Poulle) Mamou was incred, Hushpuppies were killer, Red Beans & Rice, Anything Blackened amazing! Sorry we didn’t get the photos earlier, we couldn’t stop eating. I finished the blackened chicken and the person next to me finished the blackened salmon before we could get a photo. All in all: 10/10, there was not a single aspect we didn’t enjoy. Will be going again the next time we’re in Eastern Idaho.
